Ingredients

For the Chicken
  • 700 g boneless chicken thighs (cut into medium pieces)
  • 1 tablespoon oil (vegetable or sesame oil)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
For the Korean BBQ Sauce
  • 3 tablespoons gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey (or brown sugar)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic (finely minced)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger (grated)
  • 1 tablespoon water (to adjust consistency)
For Garnishing
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions (thinly sliced)
  • sliced red chilies Optional

Method

  1. Pat the chicken dry and season it evenly with salt and black pepper to prepare it for cooking.
  2. Mix all sauce ingredients in a bowl until smooth and well combined to ensure even flavor distribution.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and cook the chicken over medium-high heat until golden brown on both sides.
  4. Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and let it simmer until thickened and fully coats the meat.
  5. Turn off heat, garnish with sesame seeds and green onions, and serve immediately for best flavor.

Notes

  • Always preheat your pan properly before adding the chicken, as this helps achieve a good sear and prevents sticking.
  • Adjust the spice level by adding more or less gochujang depending on your tolerance, ensuring the dish suits your taste.
  • Let the sauce simmer gently rather than boiling aggressively to avoid burning sugars and ruining the flavor.
  • Use fresh garlic and ginger instead of powdered versions to achieve a more vibrant and authentic taste.
