Method
- Blanch green beans 4–5 minutes, then ice bath.
- Sauté onion and mushrooms in butter 6–8 minutes.
- Add flour, cook 1–2 minutes, whisk in milk and cream, simmer until thick.
- Combine beans and sauce in baking dish.
- Bake at 375°F for 20 minutes, add topping, bake 8–10 more minutes.
Notes
- You can use frozen green beans if fresh are not available, but thaw and pat them dry first to prevent excess moisture.
- If using canned green beans, reduce baking time by 5–7 minutes since they are already soft.
- For extra flavor, add ½ teaspoon smoked paprika or a splash of Worcestershire sauce to the cream sauce.
