Total Time 4 hours 20 minutes
Servings: 8 Eggs

Ingredients

For the Eggs
  • 8 large eggs
  • Water (enough to cover eggs)
  • Ice cubes (for ice bath)
For the Soy Marinade
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
Optional Garnishes
  • 2 green onions, finely sliced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • Chili flakes (to taste)

Method

  1. Boil eggs in water for 7–8 minutes depending on your desired yolk consistency, ensuring you maintain a gentle boil for even cooking.
  2. Transfer eggs to an ice bath and cool completely to stop the cooking process and improve peeling.
  3. Peel eggs carefully under running water to keep the surface smooth and intact.
  4. Mix soy sauce, water, sugar, honey, garlic, ginger, rice vinegar, and sesame oil until fully combined.
  5. Submerge eggs in marinade and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for deeper flavor.
  6. Slice and serve with garnishes for the best presentation and taste.

Notes

  • Always control boiling time carefully because even one extra minute can change the yolk texture significantly.
  • Let the marinade fully dissolve before adding eggs to ensure consistent flavor distribution.
  • Rotate eggs during marination if they are not fully submerged to achieve even coloring.
  • Serve slightly warm or at room temperature for the most balanced flavor and aroma.
