Ingredients

Protein Base
  • 500 g smoked sausage (sliced into 1-inch pieces)
  • 300 g raw Italian sausage (optional, for extra richness)
Vegetables
  • 2 medium potatoes (cubed)
  • 2 carrots (sliced)
  • 1 large onion (chopped)
  • 1 bell pepper (sliced)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
Liquid & Sauce
  • 1 ½ cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
Seasoning & Flavor Boosters
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon thyme
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Method

  1. Slice sausage and chop vegetables into evenly sized pieces so they cook uniformly during the slow cooking process.
  2. Brown the sausage in a pan to develop deeper flavor before transferring it to the crockpot.
  3. Layer vegetables at the bottom of the crockpot and place sausage on top for even cooking distribution.
  4. Mix broth, tomatoes, tomato paste, and spices, then pour evenly over the ingredients.
  5. Cook on low for 6–8 hours or high for 3–4 hours until vegetables are tender.
  6. Taste, adjust seasoning, and let the dish rest briefly before serving for best results.

Notes

  • Browning sausage before slow cooking enhances flavor by creating a caramelized exterior that adds richness to the dish.
  • Cutting vegetables into larger chunks helps them hold their shape during long cooking times.
  • Letting the dish rest after cooking allows the sauce to thicken naturally and improves overall texture.
