Ingredients

For the Rice Base
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
For the Flavorful Sauce
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 ½ cups chicken broth or vegetable broth
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
Optional Garnish
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro chopped
  • 1 lime cut into wedges

Method

  1. Rinse rice under cold water until the water runs mostly clear.
  2. Heat oil in a skillet and toast the rice until lightly golden.
  3. Add onion and garlic, cooking until fragrant.
  4. Pour in tomato sauce, broth, and spices, then bring to a simmer.
  5. Cover and cook on low heat for 15 minutes.
  6. Fluff with a fork and garnish with cilantro and lime.

Notes

  • Toasting the rice adds authentic flavor and prevents mushy texture.
  • Use warm broth for even cooking.
Resting the rice for a few minutes before fluffing improves texture.
