Bananas Foster Bread Pudding Recipe

Ingredients
  

For the Bread Pudding Base
  • 6 cups day-old brioche or challah bread cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 3 ripe bananas sliced
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
For the Bananas Foster Sauce
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ripe bananas sliced
  • 2 tablespoons dark rum optional, for authentic flavor

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Spread bread cubes evenly in the dish and layer sliced bananas on top.
  3. Whisk milk, cream, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  4. Pour custard mixture over bread and press gently to soak. Let sit 10 minutes.
  5. Bake for 40–45 minutes until set and golden on top.

Notes

  • Day-old brioche absorbs custard best.
  • Let pudding rest 10 minutes before slicing.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.
